ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS AT LIZORI

7 December 2017
Architects and engineers at LIZORI to talk of: know-how, the topicality of traditional architecture.
LIZORI as a GLOCAL example: a peaceful and inclusive hamlet that promotes equitable quality education at every level.

The initiative was promoted by the Antonio Meneghetti Scientific and Humanistic Research Foundation – Switzerland, and by the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and International Laboratory of Landscape Research of the University of Perugia. The event received recognition by the Professional Orders of Engineers and of Architects of the Province of Perugia, by the Umbrian Professions Network, INTBAU Italy, the City of Campello sul Clitunno, the Order of Engineers Foundation, and by the G. Alessi Architecture Foundation of Umbria. Welcome greetings were provided by the mayor of Campello sul Clitunno Domizio Natali, who emphasised the modernity of past architecture and how Lizori is a splendid example of this. The presentation of the initiative was left to president of the Antonio Meneghetti Foundation (Switzerland) Pamela Bernabei, who in the last years has continued and supported the requalification processes at Lizori, place of the meeting, pearl of Umbria of rare beauty for the care profused.
Works were introduced by professor Marco Filippucci of the Perugia Civil and Environmental Engineering Department who, along with architect Michela Meschini and engineer Elisa Bettollini, winners of the Foundation’s fellowships, have presented the researches performed at Campello and Lizori and a graduation thesis that will be discussed next at the Faculty of Engineering.

The centrality of the value of signs of the tradition was analysed in a confrontation at European level. The presence of the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism (INTBAU) was pivotal; endorsed by HRH the Prince of Wales, it deals with training and promotes traditions through architecture, town planning, applied arts and culture of the local areas. In Italy it is represented by Professor Giuseppe Amoruso of the Politecnico di Milano – Milan Institute of Technology, who illustrated, together with architect Herriet Wennberg, the projects of recovery, the urban documentation and the promotion of workshops on local building techniques. International guest at the centre of the seminar was architect Helmut Rudolf Peuker, designer from Munich, Germany, well known for his extraordinary capacity to interpret the long-standing classical tradition in architecture in modern style. Professor Fabio Bianconi from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of the University of Perugia offered the conclusions to the seminar. Participants – architects, engineers, students at the faculties of architecture and engineering – received formative credits. The works of this seminar are the living witness that the path undertaken forty years ago at Lizori is going on, and its best fruits are yet to come!
