Jeannette Milgrom
is a professor of Psychological Sciences and director of the School of Clinical Psychology and Health at the University of Melbourne (Australia). In 2001 she founded the Parent-Infant Research Institute, a centre of excellence for improving the well-being of parents and children. She has been the holder and scientific responsible of 70 funded research programs, author/curator of 7 books, 17 chapters and has published 116 scientific articles on international magazines, including Nature and The Lancet. In the last 5 years she has been project leader for three major national public health researches, which have allowed her to delve into the studies on neurobehavioural development in preterm infants. In a publication of hers, which is considered a milestone in the subject, the improvement of infantile cerebral connectivity (visible through MRI scans) was demonstrated following a psychological intervention to reduce parental stress. Considered internationally as one of the leading experts in the field, she was recently the curator of the book “Identifying Perinatal Depression and Anxiety” (Wiley Blackwell, 2015), on the current state of screening. She has been a project leader in the National Postnatal Depression Programme (beyondblue 2002-2006) whose results have been instrumental to the Australian Government funding universal screening for prenatal and post-natal depression.
One of the main objectives of her work is to promote studies for the well-being of the child, widely disseminate the results and influence health policy.
